Formation of New Amsterdam

Federalists and anti-Federalists response

Debates were controversial, Federalists were ultimately successful in bringing New York into the nationalist camp. Anti- Federalists, on the other hand, managed to attach a list of proposed additional changes to be deliberately thought of before New York would officially participate in the new government.  Consequently, Hamilton, the leader of the Federalists, was able to establish a well-accommodated campaign, that caused them to narrowly win the issue stating that areas might separate from upstate NewYork, if ratification has not been accomplished.
